For the remaining 350 miles or so we were on 2 lane hwy that was up and down through mountain passes all day. We had the option of getting gas just before turning onto 140, but we were nearly full at more than 3/4 tank so we didn't see the point of putting only a couple of gallons in...we get to Denio Junction where there should be gas but there isn't. It is 81 miles before the next station. Our truck says we can go 102 miles so we risk it. After numerous up hill climbs we are now seeing that we may not make it to that station. Eventually the down hills start. We make it to Adel where there is one very old service station. While driving through the Sheldon Wildlife area low on fuel we were reminded of a documentary that we watched many years ago about a couple with a baby that get stranded there in the winter. They survive but nearly did not. Of all places to be low on gas...
This decent was intense...8% grade down the side of a mountain. I guess the locals call this Dougherty's Slide.

Once in Klamath Falls we decide to top off our tank. Oddly enough we aren't allowed to pump our own fuel in OR. We didn't even think about it at the station in Adel when the nice women pumped the gas for us because we were so happy to just get gas! As previously mentioned it was a very old station so we just thought it was old fashioned service as well.
We treated ourselves to a nice steak dinner at our camper, but not before Graham falls over his toy and gets a fat lip! He is going to look beat up for the next couple of days.
The long day is over...we made it!
