Biking Day 6. Fallon to Middlegate, NV 55 miles (July 13)

Today was another great and flat ride. We got an earlier start at about 9:30AM as we knew that the desert air would heat up faster than earlier rides. We had a fun start riding through Fallon. The city was actually a lot bigger than expected. Rebecca was able to do some shopping at a Wal-Mart and find some food and essentials and also pick up from biking gear for us.

The first 30 miles were exceptionally flat, straight and beautiful. If there were perfect weather for cycling this morning would have been it. It was sunny, about 75, low humidity, a tailwind and flat.....Andrew and I had so much fun. We were able to see a number of fighter jets working in the air above us from the Fallon Naval Air Station.

Along the way we found an interesting turn out and saw some fantastic ancient hunting markings dating back to almost 5000 years!

Further up the road we had lunch at Sand Mountain and then the climbing started.

We had about a 4 mile climb up to Sand Springs Pass.

The rest of the day was filled with sun and some heat. We saw signs for long gone mining towns and several more military air fields. We arrived early in the day and enjoyed some fantastic lunch and drinks at the Middlegate Station. This place is great... It is literally in the middle of nowhere and offers free camping and a full restaurant and bar.

We spent most of the afternoon just lounging at the camper and Charlotte played around the grounds bit.

It is funny because we are now following the Lincoln Highway which is essentially what we live on back home.

We are hoping to have some more tasty food at the restaurant tonight and prepare for a day of climbing tomorrow!

We survived our first night of "boondocking" and it has been great so far!  This means we have no hook ups.  We have a generator for power and 30 gallons of water in our tank.  It works for one night but 2 is a bigger challenge.  At this stop we even stayed hooked up to the truck.
