San Francisco...Sonoma County

Sorry about missing a day of blogging yesterday.  We were busy driving and doing fun things at the campground last night.  It turns out that our campground is right in the center of wine country.  We did not realize that was the case until we were nearly here.

Yesterday we arrived in the afternoon.  This campground is likely the most expensive of the whole summer...maybe of all time at $80+ per night.  However a hotel room around here would be far more.  Also the place is like an amusement park...jumping pad, rock climbing, petting farm, hay wagon rides, etc.

We decided last night that spending our time in downtown SF would probably not be enjoyable with a large truck and small children.  Instead a vineyard/winery visit sounded better.  We found this place called Cornerstone Sonoma.  They have a restaurant and several tasting roooms.

We ate there and tried the Poseidon and Obsidian vineyard wines.  The Chardonnay was amazing!

After this we headed toward the airport to pick up Andrew.  On our way we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge.

We had about 2 hours to kill so we went to Sharp Rock Beach in Pacifica.  We had a good time chancing waves.  The water was very cold.  We also saw whales way out in the ocean.

After a smooth pick up at the airport, we opted for a sushi dinner...after all you can't get this kind of fresh in Iowa.  It was amazing and we found parking really close by.  The place was called Ryoko in midtown SF.  It is obviously a local favorite.  There was a line out the door right as they opened and a much bigger line when we left. The sushi was fantastic!  We discovered that there was a Ben and Jerry's ice cream shop near by, so we went for a short walk to get an after dinner treat.

Finally we had to stop at the vista point that overlooks SF and the bridge.  You can also see Alcatraz off to the left and the skyline in the middle.

Tomorrow the biking begins!!
